1965 Corvette Roadster

Details

Dr. Phil Scheinberg of Carmel, California is a long time client and friend of deGarmo Ltd. We had the privilege of selling for him some of the wonderful cars in his collection, including a spectacular 1963 Series I XKE Roadster as well as an gorgeous 1967 Ferrari 330GTC. Phil has, for many years, been an accomplished vintage racer, piloting a monstrously powerful 1965 B Production small block Corvette in west coast vintage events. A testament to his knowledge and skill around all things Corvette, he maintained this race car himself over decades of successful competition. It was this intimate knowledge and experience with Corvettes that informed his desire to perform a body off, every nut and bolt restoration on an original road car to his own exacting mechanical specifications, creating the ultimate road going Corvette Roadster. He has succeeded brilliantly!

In 2011 Phil purchased this very rare 1965 396/425 Roadster. The original motor was long gone which opened the door for him to build the exact motor he wanted. To that end, he purchased a brand new crate motor from Blue Print Engines in Kearney, Nebraska; a 496 cubic inch motor, based on a 454 block (stroked and bored), with aluminum, pump gas friendly cylinder heads to reduce weight, and topped off by an 850 CFM Holly double pumper carburetor. Further, the engine is fitted with long tube Headman headers and MSD ignition. Some of the final set up and fine tuning on the motor was performed by Bob Slade, perhaps the most revered performance guy and engine builder on the west coast. Estimated horsepower is right around 600. A Tremec 5-speed gearbox was installed with a tall 5th gear for very comfortable highway cruising. A Duntov Posi traction 3:90 ratio differential was installed, easily handling the massive torque. Power steering and brakes were installed to further add to ease of driving. Clearly Dr. Scheinberg knew what he wanted, and he got it: A very user friendly, totally stock appearing ’65 396 Roadster, body off restored to perfection with a bulletproof and very powerful engine.

The car is still in its original factory colors of Rally Red with a black vinyl interior. Copious photo and written documentation of the restoration comes with the car. The cost to duplicate this meticulous restoration is a number not for the faint of heart. (Roughly double the asking price). As such, this wonderful car represents a great opportunity to own a fantastic Corvette for a fraction of the cost to build it. Asking $107,500. Close fair offers considered.
