1971 Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona

Sold

Details

This spectacular 365GTB/4 Daytona was completed by the factory on April 15th, 1971 and was dispatched to Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich, CT to be offered for sale. The first owner was Mr. Loyal Katskee of Omaha, Nebraska. (Mr. Katskee by the way was a highly respected gentleman racer having competed sucessfully in a Ferrari 750 Monza, a Jaguar C Type and a Maserati Birdcage in major events like 12 Hours of Sebring, the Chicago Grand Prix and the Havana, Cuba Grand Prix!) Mr. Tom Shelton, founder and proprietor of Shelton Ferrari in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida bought the car directly from Mr. Katskee around 1998 for his own private collection. While in Mr. Shelton’s ownership, the car received a full, concours level restoration done by the master craftsmen in his own facility. You can imagine how meticulously the car was restored given that it was for the boss! That restoration shows today as fresh as it was when completed in 1995. (Of particular interest… at the time this car was restored, the Chief Restoration Technician at Shelton Ferrari was Al Roberts Jr. who had been the head technician on Luigi Chinetti’s North American Racing Team in its heyday). Subsequent to being restored, the car received a Platinum Award at the 1998 Cavallino Classic.

Mr. Mark Boen bought the car from Shelton Ferrari in 1998 and meticulously cared for it for the next 20 years, showing it at Ferrari gatherings near his home in Carmel, CA, including Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours d’Elegance in 2011 and The Quail in 2012.

1971 was the year Ferrari had to redesign the plexiglass nose that originally covered the headlights, specifically for US delivered cars due to US federal requirements. Although the silver painted nose was later a popular addition to Daytonas by owners, the Massini Report indicates that this car left the factory in 1971 with this rare and desirable option. We believe that only about 40 cars had this option from the factory

This car is still in its original colors of Rosso Chiaro with Nero Connolly leather, the engine and gearbox are all matching numbers; factory options are power windows, air conditioning, and the aforementioned silver painted nose. Still with the car is the original tool kit as well as all factory manuals presented in the original leather pouch. Additionally, the car comes with two sets of wheels, the Borrani wire wheels that are on the car now, plus five factory Cromodora alloy wheels. Mileage is documented and original at 27, 065. (Underside and number stamping photos available upon request).

This is a rare opportunity to own one of the best Daytonas anywhere.
