  2009 deGarmo Ltd Fall Tour

A fall drive to remember

The concept behind the deGarmo Ltd. "Fall Tour" is three fold: to get some great old cars out on twisty New England back roads, to have great food along the way, and to do it while the fall foliage is at its peak. This year, our seventh annual event, we nailed it! The group of cars included the Aston DB4 you see here... plus a smattering of Jags, Mercedes, Porsche and Alfas! If you'd like to join us next year for this great one-day event, drop us an email. If you need the right car to partake we can help in that regard as well.

So many delicious sights and sounds

I'm happy to report that the collector car world is alive and very, very well despite global recession. At this year's Pebble soiree the attendance at the multitude of events was overflowing, auction results were surprisingly strong, and the outlook by both collectors and those of us in the trade alike is justifiably optimistic. This year we inspected the auction cars,  attended the up and coming Carmel Concours on Tuesday, followed by Quail on Friday, Laguna Seca Saturday, and of course Pebble Beach on Sunday morning. If you're interested in our overview of the market, or if you'd like to see a few of the photos we shot... drop us a line or call!

  2009 NE 1000 Rally

Our 356C ran like a freight train. Pure joy.
This year's running of the New England 1000 was, as expected, a stunning success! Rich and Jean Taylor never fail to put together a great group of cars and some amazing roads... traversing Vermont, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. That's our 356C Coupe in some great company: Bill Scheffler's 365GT and Joe Hayes' Daytona Spider... taking a brief rest after a morning run of about 200 miles. If you're interested in taking part in this rally or the two others that the Taylors put together, go to VintageRallies.com. If you need a car to take to the event, we can help!
  Greenwich Reunion

A rare beast returns!
If you look carefully at the deGarmo Ltd. logo, you'll notice the image of a Bentley Continental Fastback. That exact car was sold by us about 20 years ago to a New Jersey collector who still owns it to this day. He graciously lent us the car to show at the recent annual Greenwich Concours. Values of these cars have skyrocketed in the last few years. Indeed, the Fastback has become one of the most desirable collector cars in the world. It was a cherished reunion after all these years!
  Woodie Heaven

They don't come any sweeter than this

Not too long ago we acquired this incredible 1942 Ford Super Deluxe Woodie Wagon for our private collection. It had had a storied southern California past (including ownership by Warner Bros. Studios and Ry Cooder!) and best of all, it still had its original wood. We simply could not pass up this rare opportunity to own a piece of history. We've been driving this great wagon regularly and took the opportunity to show it, along with the Bentley above, at the annual Greenwich Concours. A great time was had by all!

A deGarmo Ltd. Customer Goes Abroad

Bruce Aronson's XK120 Tours Italy

When we sold the fabulous XK120 M Roadster pictured here to Bruce Aronson, we had no idea... Bruce mentioned that he was going on a "little tour" with the car. Master of the understatement, what he meant was that he was taking the Jag to Italy to run in the world famous "Italia Classica": a 10 day, 1000 mile tour through southern Italy. This wonderful XK, a former national show winner, and maybe the best driving example ever in our inventory, did us proud by completing the tour without a hiccup. All of this while in the company of some of the rarest and most valuable sports cars ever assembled: Ferrari GTO, Lagonda Rapide, Alfa 8C, BMW 507, and an AC Cobra to mention but a few. Hats off to Bruce for using this wonderful car as it was intended!

The Ford Woodie King

A very rare thing happened a few years back at Pebble Beach: Woodie wagons used to be the domain of surfer dudes and only the most eccentric collectors. How things have changed. At the 2003 Pebble Beach Concours d"Elegance a special class was created for Woodies and Nick Alexander, friend and customer of deGarmo Ltd., won first and second in class with his amazing cars. The Marmon Herrington four wheel drive pictured here is one of only two left in existence and it was restored by Nick's own staff of woodie craftsmen.  Nick bought his first woodie from us about 10 years ago, a 1947 Sportsman. Since then he has assembled the most complete collection of Ford and Mercury woodies in the world. Woodies have finally entered the mainstream of collectibles, indeed, values have doubled in the last 3 years. Not only are they an essencial iconic piece of American culture, they're just totally bitchin'.
